Position Summary
Futures Group is recruiting a Research Coordinator for a new evaluation study of the scale-up of gender-based violence interventions in Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities
· Serves as manager of the Tanzania-based evaluation study data team and reports to the U.S.-based Project Director; provides technical guidance to the data team, which is situated within a local research institution.
· Manages day-to-day evaluation study protocol operations of data collection , data entry , data management, and data quality assurance.
· Liaises with the international and local principal investigators, coordinating their technical direction and inputs with regard to study operations.
· Contributes to the development of the evaluation study protocol monitors and ensures that the study is conducted according to protocol.
Contributes to data analysis and dissemination of findings.
· Provides analytical and evaluative techniques to identify, consider, and resolve issues or problems.
· Leads and organizes project trainings, workshops, and meetings.
· Participates, and represents the organization as needed, in outside project-related meetings and workshops.
· Participates in and/or prepares necessary technical and program-related reports, including presentations and manuscripts for scientific publication.
Qualifications
· Advanced degree in public health, such as epidemiology, biostatistics, or related field.
· 8+ years of experience in public health research involving larger-scale data collection .
· Experience implementing facility- and community-based field research in sub-Saharan Africa required; experience with GBV and HIV and other health programs preferred.
· Demonstrated project management and operations skills including team building and team management.
· Strong interpersonal, writing, presentation and organizational skills.
· Demonstrated problem solving, analytic, financial, and evaluative skills.
· Attention to detail and ability to effectively and efficiently perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities often within a required timeframe.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
· Familiarity with the political, social, economic, and cultural context of working in Tanzania.
Preference will be given to local nationals.

VOLUNTEER LEGAL ADVOCATE, DAR ES SALAAM

Asylum Access, a US-based international refugee rights organization, is seeking experienced legal profession als to serve as Volunteer Legal Advocates (VLAs) in its office in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
Asylum Access envisions a world where refugees are seen as people with rights, not just people with needs. Asylum Access believes that by empowering refugees to assert their human rights, we can support the creation of effective, lasting solutions for refugees around the world. Asylum Access achieves this partly through the work of national and international volunteers that join the VLA program.
VLA's have the opportunity to help make refugee rights a reality in Africa. Our global VLA team is made of lawyers and highly-qualified law students who commit to spending at least 6 months in Asylum Access offices abroad. They provide direct legal advice and representation to refugees seeking asylum or other legal status . VLAs receive intensive training in international refugee law, and practice before local offices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees or local refugee status adjudicators. Volunteers may also have the opportunity to engage in policy advocacy at a national or international level.
The ideal applicant will be a legal profession al with substantive knowledge of international human rights and refugee law, including client counseling and advocacy. The candidate should be able to build relationships and adapt legal strategies to fit new and/or challenging circumstances. Client service experience and past work with vulnerable populations is a plus.
Asylum Access Tanzania (AATZ) solicits applications from well-prepared candidates with impeccable writing, persuasive advocacy skills and a passion for social justice who are ready to commit themselves to spending six months or more in Tanzania. Volunteer Legal Advocates (VLAs) will provide legal counsel, advice and advocacy on behalf of refugees seeking asylum, resettlement or the assertion of other legal rights. VLAs play an integral part of AATZ's team and will get the opportunity to work with UNHCR and Tanzanian Government representatives to coordinate and strengthen the involvement of AATZ in decisions affecting refugee rights.
Position Responsibilities:
· VLAs are responsible for the following duties:
· Advise refugees and assist them in understand their rights;
· Interview refugees and advocate for them regarding their individual RSD and/or resettlement;
· Maintain a high caseload of RSD cases in a fast paced, demanding environment while adhering to strict filing deadlines;
· Conduct client intake and screening interviews, assess needs, and refer to other service providers as needed;
· Where possible, develop unique and innovative legal tactics to assist clients with other legal needs, including assistance to assert rights to movement, security, humanitarian aid, education and social services;
· Conduct research on "country of origin" situations and refugee law jurisprudence;
· Develop material for "Know Your Rights" workshops for refugees both in camps and urban settings, as well as teach and/or participate in the workshops;
· Occasionally, represent AATZ at events, conferences and meetings, and/or assist in other publicity and/or fundraising efforts;
· Assist with the general administrative duties of the office, including helping to build administrative capacity within the office to meet demand as AATZ grows.
Preferred Qualifications:
· A positive, flexible personality and attitude;
· English is required. Intermediate to proficient French or Swahili are very helpful.
· A Bachelor of Laws, JD or equivalent is preferred, but other degrees or equivalent experience in a related field will be considered. Exceptional law students will be considered;
· Experience working in direct clients services, ideally with asylum seekers or in human rights, as well as a strong passion for social justice work;
· Experience working with vulnerable populations and/or survivors of trauma;
· International experience living and working cross-culturally in developing countries, preferably in Africa;
· Experience working in a non-profit setting with limited resources, ideally in the global south;
· An easygoing personality with the demonstrated capacity to handle living and working in an ad-hoc environment where difficult situations and crises can develop at a moment's notice;
· Aptitude to successfully complete assigned tasks with minimal oversight while serving clients with the highest ethical standards;
· Understanding of the importance of working as part of a team and the ability to carefully and faithfully follow the direction of AATZ management staff;
· Ability to commit to at least 6 months of full-time work. Between the months of May to August, exceptional, experienced law students who are only able to commit to working at AATZ for their summer break will be eligible for admission into the VLA program if they can commit to a minimum of 12 weeks.

Summary:
Financial Integration, Economic Leveraging, Broad-based Dissemination and Support Project (FIELD-Support) is hereby seeking a proposal from qualified individuals to serve as a technical specialist on cash transfers to address sexual and reproductive behaviors in Iringa Province in Tanzania. This service is being procured for the USAID FIELD-Support program, managed by FHI 360.
FIELD-Support requires approximately 6 weeks of part-time consulting services from one person to serve on a field assessment, traveling to Dar es Salaam and Iringa Province in late April through Early May, to help design a pilot activity and contribute to the development of Standards of Practice related to cash transfers to address sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of young and adolescent girls.
Duties and Responsibility:
1) Work with USAID to assess the needs and design the pilot activity that is in line with the research design of the RCT; 2) Support a broader team of practitioners in developing a comprehensive set of Standards of Practice around key Combination Prevention interventions, including Cash Transfers for SRH; and 3) Work with USAID to develop the Program Description for a new Associate Award to implement the pilot activity, assess its outcomes, and if USAID so chooses, eventually scale up the intervention on a national scale.
Qualifications and Evaluation Criteria:
· Candidates for this position must demonstrate the following:
· Demonstrated experience with conditional and unconditional cash transfers required.
· Familiarity with Tanzanian context, experience in Iringa Region preferred.
· Experience drafting Standards of Practice, practitioner guidelines, conceptual frameworks, or theoretical design required.
· Experience designing pilots and familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods including RCTs preferred.
· Familiarity with issues around sexual & reproductive health and HIV prevention preferred.
· Kiswahili preferred.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief, Judicial Records and Archives Unit, the Audio-Visual Redaction Coordinator is responsible for providing direct supervision to the teams responsible for the redaction of the audio-visual recordings of the judicial proceedings of the ICTR. The audio-visual redaction teams are tasked with reviewing all archival audio-visual recordings of the courtroom proceedings to identify and remove any sensitive information contained in the recordings in order to prevent the disclosure of information relating to protected witnesses. This includes closely reviewing all relevant judicial records, applying the established redaction principles to the review process to ensure compliance with established procedures and transparency of the redaction process. The redaction process includes the removal any potentially identifying information from the relevant language versions of the digital copies of the audio-visual records using digital audio-visual editing software and asset management systems to create redacted versions of the audio-visual records. Under the supervision of the Audio-Visual Redaction Coordinator, the audio-visual redaction teams are responsible for creating redacted version of the digital audio-visual recordings of the ICTR's judicial proceedings and integrating those recordings into the electronic record-keeping system (TRIM) to enhance their accessibility.
The Audio-Visual Redaction Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all records have been reviewed and processed in a timely and efficient manner. This includes monitoring the workflow of the audio-visual redaction teams, scheduling assignments, providing regular progress reports on all activities of the teams, conducting regular needs assessments and training programmes for the Audio-Visual Redactors, assessing and monitoring their performance, and overseeing the provision of required resources for the reaction process.
The Audio-Visual Redactor Coordinator is also responsible for the quality of the redaction process, including performing quality control and assurance on all redacted files and monitoring and verifying the input of data into TRIM and other workflow management tools. The Audio-Visual Redaction Coordinator is responsible for ensuring conformity to established procedures and practices and providing technical recommendations to enhance and improve the redaction methodology. This will include the development of information sharing policies and data protection procedures and will require familiarity with audio-visual editing technology and digital asset management systems.
The incumbent will work in close collaboration with the Audio-Visual Archivist and Juridical Records and Archives team to ensure the long term preservation of the records of the ICTR including any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor or hierarchy.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. A university degree in the fields of Audio-Visual Archiving, Film Production, Information Management, Library Science, Law, Humanities, or Administration would be a definite asset.
Work Experience
A minimum of eight years of experience, two of which are supervisory, in one of the following fields are required:
- audio editing, recording or production,
- electronic editing/ redaction of legal material
- information management or archiving
- international judicial environment.
Languages
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of Kinyarwanda is an advantage
