  1. Alistair Services, a newly established Tanzanian and Mozambique based equipment hire and logistics firm, seeks a qualified accountant to work as the Financial Director.
The business has been set up jointly by Alistair Logistics, a Tanzanian based transporter, and by African Century, a group holding company with interests across food production, financial services and asset management, operating in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Zambia.

Alistair Services has existing operations in Mtwara, Tanzania and a head office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. By the end of Q1 2012, the Company will have established a presence in both Pemba and Nacala, Mozambique. 

The position will be located in Mozambique with regular travel to Tanzania. The business venture plans to grow to a $50 million balance sheet within five years. The Financial Director will be responsible for setting up and maintaining all accounting, financial reporting and cash management systems and controls relating to the business, commercial decision making on new business and involvement in fundraising initiatives. Key deliverables are therefore:
      Building high quality finance teams to support the operations in Tanzania and Mozambique, including close liaison with the parent company in Mauritius and shareholders. This will include recruiting and training a competent team from scratch who are capable of adequately supporting a fast-growing business.
      Establishing robust financial procedures to control cash and treasury, revenue, costs and working capital.
      Produce a recommendation for and implementation of an appropriate accounting and equipment management system.
      Developing financial reporting templates to provide accurate and timely management and statutory information to all stakeholders, including management of the annual audit.
      Development of robust financial budgets and forecasts.
      Management of taxation matters across various jurisdictions.
      Implementation of a strong risk management framework and maintenance of strict corporate governance standards.
      Production of quotations and contracts for new customers.
      Supporting the business and wider management team in securing growth finance from local and international sources and purchase terms from equipment suppliers.
      Provision of insight and analysis on key strategic decisions including expansion into new geographies or markets and the purchase of new equipment.

The Financial Director will be reporting to a Tanzanian-based CEO.
The position requires a candidate who is a qualified accountant with at least eight years work experience. The candidate must be an exceptionally motivated self-starter with the ability to take initiative and multi-task. He/she will have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills. He/she should be comfortable working with and understanding a variety of accounting software, and have the ambition to help drive the growth of a young company. He/she will be an excellent manager of people, and well used to working across different geographies and cultures. The candidate will be comfortable with regular travel, particularly between Tanzania and Mozambique.

Alistair Services would like to fill this position by the end of the 1st Quarter 2012. Ideally, the candidate has previous experience in a plant hire or logistics firm. Fluency in Portuguese and English required; Swahili skills desirable.

Madaktari: Ukibakwa usioge

MADAKTARI wamehadharisha watu wanaobakwa kwamba wakishatendwa hivyo wasioge au kubadili nguo kwa sababu kufanya hivyo kunapoteza ushahidi muhimu wa kumtia hatiani kisheria mbakaji.

Imeelezwa kuwa mtu akibakwa, anapaswa kwenda Polisi haraka kupata fomu namba tatu (PF3) na awahishwe hospitali ya wilaya ambako atapewa matibabu ikiwa ni pamoja na dawa ya kuzuia maambukizi ya virusi vya ukimwi (VVU).

Dawa ya kuzuia maambukizi ya VVU inayojulikana kama PEP, inaweza kufanya kazi endapo tu mwathirika atapewa ndani ya saa 72 baada ya kubakwa kama kabla ya kubakwa hakuwa na maambukizi.

Akizungumza jana na wanahabari walioshiriki utafiti wa masuala ya ukatili wa kijinsia uliofanywa na Chama cha Wanahabari Wanawake Tanzania (TAMWA) wilayani Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, Dk. Zuberi Mzige wa hospitali ya Mwananyamala, alisema watoto, wasichana na wanawake wengi wanaofika hospitalini baada ya kubakwa na kunajisiwa, huwa wamepoteza ushahidi kwa kuoga na kubadili nguo walizovaa wakati wakibakwa.

Aidha, alisema wengi hufika hospitalini wamechelewa na hivyo kuwa katika hatari kubwa ya kupata maambukizi ya VVU.

Alisema kesi nyingi za ubakaji zimekuwa zikikosa ushahidi wa madaktari, kwa sababu aliyebakwa anatakiwa kupelekwa hospitalini akiwa na nguo zake na ‘uchafu’, kwa sababu ushahidi wa Polisi na daktari kuwa tendo la ubakaji limefanyika ni nguo alizobakwa nazo mwathirika.

Dk. Prisca Berege anayeshughulika na magonjwa ya watoto Mwananyamala, alisema lipo tatizo kubwa la kunajisi watoto Dar es Salaam na kwamba hatua zisipochukuliwa, Taifa litapata madhara makubwa.

Dk. Berege alisema, kwa wastani kila siku hospitali hiyo hupokea watu watatu waliobakwa au kunajisiwa, ambao ni wanawake na watoto, na vitendo vingi vya ubakaji huripotiwa hospitalini hapo usiku, hivyo aliasa wazazi kuepuka kutuma watoto wao usiku.

Aidha, alihadharisha wasichana kuepuka kwenda kwenye nyumba za wanaume hata kama wanawaamini na ni marafiki zao, kwani baadhi ya wanaume huwa na nia mbaya ya kubaka hata mchana.

Alitoa mfano wa binti ambaye hivi karibuni alibakwa mchana kwenye nyumba ya mwanamume aliyemwamini na kumthamini kama kaka yake na mwajiri wake.

Mwanamume huyo alimwita nyumbani kwa kumdanganya kuwa kuna kazi wangekwenda kupanga kufanya na kisha kumgeuka.
